I still stand by my point that social media did not play a big part in informing us about ebola because people were only updating us about how many people were effected and how many were dying any not much about evrrything else.
ReplyDeleteThere's absolutely no problem with that Gcina. We do all see things differently in the sense of having our own point of views on how certain information is distributed.I personally still do believe that I was able to learn a huge amount about the Ebola crisis due to social media.
DeleteSince you strongly stand by the fact that social media informed you a lot, can you please give me one example apart from death rates and the people affected rate.
DeleteYes social media did play a role in informing us and updating us about the disease..but there's only so much that they choose to show us. How do we know that what they were showing us is the real thing??
ReplyDeleteWe know this as it is not only on social media that the Ebola crisis has been trending. The same information that has been put on social media has been trending on other platforms too;this is how we know that it is the real deal...
DeleteI feel as though social media did help to inform us about the important things and yes it was also on other platforms however social media can also publish false information and people need to remember that.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a point there Dori, but all the information I have come across thus far on social media has been trending on other platforms,I feel that people need to go to verified pages to actually know whether the information is false or not :)
DeleteThis epidemic really shocked the world. Although their are speculations that this epidemic has been around for quite some time now, it was only brought to our attention when it had already killed thousands of people.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed,I most definitely agree with you..and sadly it is still killing thousands and thousands everyday...
DeleteI do believe that social media has played a vital role in creating awareness of the deadly disease, the outbreak of the disease also resulted in the African Cup of nations being moved from Morocco to Equitorial Guinea and Gabon
ReplyDeleteI heard about that and was extremely upset!but sadly we cannot stop what has happened with regards to this crisis,I hope a cure will be brought about soon thereby this will allow everything to end,it's a sad situation, innocent people are being killed
DeleteSuch an interesting blog Courtney I really also believe that social media also played a very big role in getting the message out about Ebola, people needed to know what it is.
